Dalton Link. Portland, Maine. Artist.
My work is an incredible reflection of myself. Then again, what art doesn’t reveal the slightest glimmer of its creator? I’ve relied less heavily on my experiences and thoughts to supplement my art and have used my aesthetic interests to guide my creative meanderings. Strong inspirations for me are the old and worn; what once was new but now presents itself with a opaque layer of time over it. Vintage mid-century ceramics and hard goods interest me with their equal devotion to visual and tactile aesthetics.
As an artist, I’m exploring dualities. I want to see the dialogue, the contrast between two forces found in one piece. Some dualities found in my work: black and white; light and dark; form and surface; reflection and shadow; ceramic and wood; squid and whale; and smooth and rough.
